Assistance to local authorities in Serbia in managing projects by European standards will provide officers from Europe. Establishing a network of officers of EU in five cities of Serbia.Local authorities in Serbia will get assistance of officers from Europe, who will advise them how to manage projects by European principles. Project is a chance for local Administration to confirm itself as a partner on the way to EU, said director of Office for European Integration Milica Delevic, at the recent forum “Local Authorities on the Way to EU”, that is in organization of SCTM held in Belgrade. Pilot project named “Establishing the network of officers of EU in five cities of Serbia” organized by Office of Government of European Integrations in cooperation with Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities from 1st July 2010 to 28th February 2011.

Process of European integrations implies that more then half of European Legislation should be carried out by local self-government. To strengthen their capacity, in the cities Uzice,Vranje, Valjevo, Nis and Zrenjenin, European officers should help and in information of citizens, but and better law enforcement on the local level. Director of Government` Office of European Integration of Serbia, Milica Delevic said that local self government in Serbia become stronger and what happens at the central level, or laws which Serbia must issue. “Local Administration effective and concrete support of European Union, and this project I see as chance for Serbia to confirm herself as significant partner and on our way to EU and information of citizens and what is doing in the process of European integrations” highlighted Delevic. Member of the Council of City Municipality of Palilula and represent of City of Nis on this project, Zorica Stoiljkovic, expects from the project to improve conditions and quality of life on the local level, which will be achieved overall progress and strengthen of local authorities on the way of Serbia to EU. By opinion of General Secretary of SCTM, Djordje Stancic, assistance of officers of EU is significant to monitor the process of European integration. This project, funded by American Agency of International Development (USAID) through the program “Advocacy Initiatives of Civil Society” managed by Institute of service of community (IMC),  by rating of Andrew Headey, representative of EU Delegation in Serbia, will allow to identify the problems and needs in municipalities.
